What is a task order versus a delivery order?
In U.S. federal procurement a task order orders services under an existing contract; a delivery order orders supplies. Both are distinct from the contract that permits the orders.
Compare two public records
A Defense Department audit describes a $3.3 million task order for engineering support, repair and maintenance. A separate Special Operations Command notice describes a vehicle for network accessory cases and says procurement funds were obligated on the first delivery order. The vehicle’s $45.25 million ceiling was not the amount of that first order.
What should a supplier record show?
Capture the parent contract, individual order, supplier, scope and amount separately. When the notice states only that funds were obligated, leave the order amount unknown rather than substituting the parent ceiling.
